Help Motivate Me to Finish Painting my Car!

So...essentially I’m painting this car twice. The first time, after tons of hours of block sanding and getting everything just right, disaster occurred whilst shooting the paint. So I sanded it all off in anger, and am now back to where I started. So far I’ve only mustered up enough motivation to get the car initially primed again. I need to:

1) Block, prime, repeat until panels are flat (again)

2) Prime with sealer and wet sand for base coat

3) Clean the heck out of my garage

4) Spray base coat, then clear coat

5) Spend lots more hours color sanding and polishing

6) Reassemble and ruin it all at the track.

Anybody good at motivational speeches?

I know, right!? I actually kind of like the primer look better than the paint, but I already dished out a pretty good chunk of cash for the paint.

You can sit there and type away while this awaits you. Trust me, I’ve been there, pissed away my hours making meme’s to make internet strangers laugh when really you know you want to get out there. You will scrap your fingers raw getting every little curve and edge just right, measure the paint to the millilitre, and seal that booth off just to know when your done you have done all you can.

For the day that car hits the road and you feel that bit of joy down deep in your gut as people watch you drive by, you will know the raw skin and over the top preparation will be worth it. Take the thought of that feeling and stand up and get out there.

I think primer absorbs moisture so not painting it could make the car rust out making all of your prior work pointless.

I always find bodywork kinda relaxing, just something about being able to tone out for hours and watch it slowly progress. I can’t wait to see it finished! There, now you have one more person to disappoint if you don’t get out there.

A significant amount of the original paint is missing from my miata. I dont know why mazda has so much trouble with adhesion.

That’s interesting...mine didn’t have any paint missing, but the clear coat had faded where cheap clear was used for repairs. Apparently my car has been in 3 separate ‘incidents’. That’s what happens when you buy a cheap car on Craigslist that has never been in an accident. :)

Let me know if you want some help. (assuming you’re not an axe murderer) I live relatively nearby and I have a bunch of little maintenance things on my Miata that you could return the favor by helping with one. Look at my posts if you don’t remember me.

Just let me know! The only bodywork I’ve done was on my Ranger (if you read that post) but I’m sure I can be taught. I just figured I like work better with someone else there +food and jams.
